The point of a first version is to find out whether people want the thing. Every feature that does not serve that question is delaying the answer and inflating the bill.
The one-question test
For each feature, ask: if this were missing, would the app fail to prove its core idea? If the answer is no, it goes in version two. Settings screens, profile editing and onboarding tours usually fail this test.
What almost always stays
The core action, a way to sign in, and a way for you to see what users did. Without analytics you launch and learn nothing, which defeats the point of an MVP.
An MVP isn't a smaller product. It's a question, asked in code.
What this means for you
We help draw that line during scoping — it is usually the single biggest lever on cost.
